Installation, Sculpture, Video, Interactive

Exhibition Venue: Project Space, Elam

This multidisciplinary exhibition features a blend of installation art, sculptures, video projections, and interactive elements. Hosted at Project Space, Elam, within The University of Auckland, this showcase aims to create an immersive experience that engages visitors on multiple sensory levels. Each piece in the exhibition explores different facets of identity, inviting viewers to interact and reflect on their own journeys of self-discovery and transformation.

This project explores femininity's diversity, complexity, and necessary value in contemporary society. It aims to create cognitive and energetic consensus through interdisciplinary research and artistic practice. The central focus involves a comprehensive study of femininity, drawing from disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, art, literature, sociology, and personal experiential research, employing a process similar to psychoanalysis. I aim to explore femininity's inherent diversity and complexity, transcending a precise understanding of female identity and embracing a multifaceted understanding of characteristics and identification across genders. Critical aspects in my practice and presentation involve understanding, appreciating, and critiquing the subtle differences within femininity. That requires exploring cultural backgrounds, gender power structures, and contemporary female identities. The project also investigates how femininity generates empowering influences in contemporary society. Through an in-depth study of artists and philosophers representing diverse backgrounds of femininity, this research combines body language and materiality to create a series of unique and diverse sculptures. The aim is to emphasize the dynamic nature of femininity. Combined with recycled construction materials and sculptural installations in a simulated modern community, these artistic expressions establish an immersive space that facilitates audience participation and fosters new identity agreements and consensus.

Special thanks to Wen Yang for her participation in the project and for her permission to photograph and display her interaction with the sculpture.
